RN Clinical - Pre-Post Op - Per Diem 10 Hour Rotating Shifts (Non-Exempt) (Union)

Responsibilities

As an integral part of the interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse utilizes the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients. The RN is accountable for coordinating patient care and education in a compassionate, supportive, and therapeutic environment. The RN works under the supervision of the RN Clinical Coordinator and/or Clinical Director of Perioperative Services.

  • The PACU Registered Nurse manages a variety of complex patient populations by utilizing methodical and evidence‑based scientific practice standards. The RN maintains physiological and behavioral functions, provides psychological and sociological support to patients and families during recovery, and prioritizes improvement and/or maintenance of the patient’s pre‑surgical state.
  • Consistently transfers scientific knowledge and applies the nursing process.
  • Formulates care plans for direct and indirect care.
  • Performs essential nursing actions and skills required for patient care.
  • Explains health treatments and teaches clients and families.
  • Delegates tasks to others based on scope of practice, preparation, and capability.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of care, modifies plans as needed, and interprets information.
  • Acts as a patient advocate by initiating actions to advance the plan of care.
  • Initiates and supports change decisions.
  • Participates in the development of professional practice, including nursing committees, research, policy development, and unit-based improvement projects.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current policies and shares awareness of new trends and technology.
  • Provides appropriate age‑specific care to patients.
  • Utilizes the six core steps—data collection, assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation, and patient teaching—to manage patient conditions.
  • Collaborates with surgeons, co‑workers, and ancillary staff while providing direct care to PACU patients.
  • Utilizes policies and procedures to support the RN’s scope of practice.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining performance improvement and quality-control activities for the department and the hospital.
  • Assists in providing orientation, training, and continuing education for staff.
  • Adheres to governing regulations such as hospital policies, Title 22, and JCAHO.
  • Is competent in utilizing Cerner Millennium to place physician orders.
  • Is a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) – Grandfathered for those hired prior to 12/2019.
  • At least 1 year of prior PACU experience or one year in a high-acuity Intensive Care setting immediately prior to application.
  • Excellent communication skills, including speaking, reading, and writing English proficiently.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions with the ability to understand, follow, and successfully perform duties, including whole blood collections and apheresis procedures, in accordance with administrative and clinical policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Committed to excellence in patient care and customer service.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently with minimal direction and supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Critical Care Nursing Certificate – CCRN (AACN) or CCRN/CPAN preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) – California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – Card required within 30 days of hire if not already held; renewal before expiration.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association.

Pay Range

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $44.00 to $95.00.
