Position Summary
The Charge Nurse is a licensed professional who provides unit‑specific management leadership in first‑point‑of‑contact supervision, direct patient care, education, and emotional support. They collaborate with physicians, interpret the medical plan, supervise staff, and assist higher‑level management in patient care and family support.
Education / Training / Experience
- Minimum: One year experience in a perioperative environment OR one year RN‑Charge experience.
- Desired: Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
- Two years or more critical‑care experience.
- Perioperative charge nurse or relief charge nurse experience.
Licenses / Certifications
- Minimum: Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- Current CPR.
- ACLS.
- PALS (within one year of employment).
- Desired: Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR).
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Must demonstrate technical competence, professional clinical judgment, and effective communication with physicians, staff, patients, and the public. Ability to prioritize work efficiently, remain calm in a demanding environment, and communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Willingness to participate in continuing education, QI task forces, preceptor programs, and serve as a department resource and role model. Must be able to perform essential functions at intermediate and advanced levels and meet competency requirements.
