Risk & Safety Intelligence Lead

Position Summary

The Risk and Safety Intelligence Officer serves as the primary technical lead for the Environmental Health, Safety & Risk Management (EHSRM) unit’s data lifecycle and organizational insight functions. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of EHSRM, the officer coordinates and administers complex information systems—including UC systemwide platforms such as RSS, RDMS, iVOS, and internal HR and financial systems—to provide strategic insights into divisional performance and organizational losses.

Key Responsibilities

• Autonomously determine which data sets to analyze to inform tactical and strategic decision‑making.
• Lead analytical studies, including SWOT and GAP analyses, to identify root causes of safety and loss incidents and formulate data‑driven recommendations for improvements of EH&S and Risk Management programs.
• Design new safety, compliance, and loss mitigation/prevention metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Create advanced business intelligence tools such as pivot tables and dashboards, and ensure the long‑term accuracy and integrity of data used for campus‑wide risk mitigation.
• Prepare and present complex risk findings verbally and in writing to diverse constituencies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.
• 4 – 7 years of related experience in risk management, insurance, forecasting, accounting, or related disciplines.
• In‑depth knowledge of risk management, insurance, forecasting and analysis, accounting, and organizational processes and procedures.
• Proven interpersonal, customer‑service orientation, active listening, and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to concisely present complex risk findings and make actionable recommendations.
• Strong critical‑thinking and analytical problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with advanced political acumen.
• Familiarity with Environmental Health and Safety operations and terminology.
• Current work authorization required. No sponsorship for visas will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of common university‑specific computer application programs.
