Overview
A stealth-mode space company is developing a cutting-edge satellite constellation in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to deliver ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery for commercial and defense applications. This is the RF Communications Lead role based in Louisville, CO. This is a full-time, mid-senior level position.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the architecture, design, and development of RF communication systems for satellite missions, including space-to-ground and inter-satellite links.
- Define RF system-level requirements, build and analyze link budgets, and run performance simulations across all mission phases.
- Conduct vendor trade studies and lead the selection, integration, and qualification of RF hardware (e.g., transceivers, antennas, amplifiers, duplexers).
- Collaborate with systems, avionics, and software teams to ensure seamless end-to-end integration.
- Serve as the technical lead on spectrum licensing and regulatory compliance (FCC, ITU), in coordination with legal and compliance stakeholders.
- Plan and execute RF testing across environments.
- Manage a small technical team (1–2 engineers), providing leadership, direction, and technical feedback.
- Represent the RF function in customer interactions, proposal efforts, design reviews, and deliverables.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- 7+ years of RF engineering experience, with 3+ years focused on LEO satellite communications.
- Strong foundation in RF propagation, modulation/demodulation, communication protocols, and transceiver integration within avionics systems.
- Proficient in Python.
- Solid knowledge of ITU, FCC, and related regulatory environments.
- Demonstrated success working within and leading cross-functional teams.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and clear communication skills.
