Role Summary:
Processes pension plan distributions and participant loans in accordance with regulatory requirements, plan provisions and established company policies and procedures. While handling routine matters independently under general supervision, they actively seek guidance for more intricate issues. Collaboration is key as they work closely with managers, team members, participants, and external entities to maintain the department's performance standards and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality results.
About the Role:
- Responds to participant requests for withdrawal funds following company procedures. Obtains necessary information to process requests efficiently.
- Determines eligibility for distribution or participant loan based on government regulations and plan provisions.
- Receives and transmits confidential data in a secure manner to protect participant information.
- Reviews and interprets provisions of plan documents accurately.
- Provides loan payment alternatives using established loan modeling techniques.
- Calculates vested amounts and amounts available for hardship distributions and loans.
- Prepares and processes withdrawal forms and related notices within specified quality and turnaround expectations.
- Communicates directly with participants to explain taxation and restrictions of distributions and loans.
- Coordinates with representatives of multiple investment platforms to expedite liquidation and transfer of assets.
- Responds to inquiries from outside vendors or participants regarding payment status and resolves issues promptly.
- Pursues professional development and training to enhance skills and stay updated on industry regulations.
- Stays informed about new developments in legislation and trends affecting the industry.
- Offers suggestions and input for existing and new plans based on assessment of standard procedures and regulations.
- Works with supervisor, team members and Operations staff to continuously improve processes, procedures, and workflow. Provides input on areas that affect own client work.
Job Specifications:
- General knowledge of data analytics and mathematical calculation techniques as may be obtained with an associate degree in business or related technical field and minimum 1 year experience working with qualified pension and benefits plans in an administrative or technical capacity. Additional demonstrated experience may be substituted for education.
- Ability to analyze and interpret pension plan documents to process participant loans and distributions in accordance with regulatory rules and company policies and procedures.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, perform mathematical calculations, identify, and solve problems and follow complex instructions.
- Basic knowledge of taxation rules that impact pension plan withdrawals.
- Ability to maintain and protect confidential information.
- Ability to read and write at an advanced level to understand legal documents.
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing to internal staff and external clients and advisors in a manner that is clear and responsive to questions and issues. Ability to demonstrate adaptability, patience, and empathy in problematic situations to achieve desired results.
- Ability to work individually and within a team. Ability to meet deadlines while working on multiple projects.
- Comprehensive knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software and internet literacy to process distributions and loans.
- Ability to learn and work with retirement plan related system platforms and software as may be gained through training, internships, or prior work experience.
- Understanding of DBZ policies, procedures, mission, goals, objectives, and organization values as acquired through company handbook, written policies, and on-the-job experience.
- Ability to pursue education track towards a designated membership in the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA) as a QKA or higher credential.
Normal office conditions 100%. Sedentary for extended time periods while working on a computer. This role routinely uses office equipment such as computers and phones.
