Position: Respiratory Student
Position Summary: The Respiratory Care student performs basic respiratory modalities and arterial blood gases. The Respiratory Student supports the Department Director, Clinical Coordinators, and other staff of the Respiratory Care Services Department and Pulmonary Function Lab. The role supports an organizational culture of Service Excellence and upholds Service Excellence Standards for all customer groups.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrates the ability to set priorities for maximum efficiency during the scheduled shift without compromising the quality of work. Manages time well and performs all tasks in a timely manner.
Job Duties
- Perform basic respiratory modalities and arterial blood gas analysis.
- Support department directors, clinicians, and staff in delivering patient care.
- Maintain and document patient records accurately.
- Assist in quality improvement initiatives and patient safety measures.
- Participate in educational and training activities required for student roles.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalency required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Must possess current BLS certification from the American Heart Association upon hire and maintain it throughout employment.
- Must be enrolled in and attending an AMA approved formal respiratory training program.
Physical And Sensory Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and converse in English.
- Ability to communicate with patients, families, and staff.
- Ability to remain calm under stress.
- Ability to evaluate and interpret information and make independent decisions.
- Physical ability to bend, lift (10-30 lbs minimum), grasp, fine hand coordinate, push, pull, stand, sit, and squat as required.
