Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is responsible for providing respiratory care to patients in an acute care hospital setting, specifically within adult critical care and the emergency department. This includes airway management, ventilator management, and administering oxygen therapy. The RRT will work 3x12 night shifts or 4x12s ), every other weekend, and will be required to take on-call shifts as needed. The role requires experience with Cerner and the ability to float within scope to meet facility needs.

Responsibilities:
- Administering respiratory treatments, including nebulizers (handheld, T-Piece, trach collar).
- Managing airway devices and performing suctioning (endotracheal tube, nasal/oral airways, tracheostomy).
- Providing oxygen therapy (bag and mask, ET tube, high flow nasal cannula, T-Piece, trach collar, Venturi masks).
- Managing ventilators (BiPAP, CPAP), troubleshooting alarms, and weaning patients from mechanical ventilation.
- Collecting sputum specimens.
- Assisting with intubation and performing extubation.
- Monitoring and documenting patient responses to therapy.
- Floating to other areas within scope of practice as needed.
- Performing neuro diagnostics.
Required Skills & Certifications:
- Minimum 1 year of experience.
- BLS certification.
- RRT certification.
- Active IL license.
- Experience with Cerner.
- Adult Critical Care experience.
- Emergency Department experience.
- Endotracheal tube/suctioning skills.
- Extubation skills.
- Intubation Assist skills.
- Nasal/Oral airway placement skills.
- Oropharyngeal/suctioning skills.
- Sputum specimen collection skills.
- Tracheostomy/suctioning skills.
- Hand held nebulizer skills.
- T-Piece nebulizer skills.
- Trach collar nebulizer skills.
- Bag and mask oxygen therapy skills.
- ET Tube oxygen therapy skills.
- High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy skills.
- T-Piece oxygen therapy skills.
- Trach Collar oxygen therapy skills.
- Venturi Masks oxygen therapy skills.
- BiPAP ventilator management skills.
- CPAP ventilator management skills.
- Troubleshooting high pressure alarms skills.
- Weaning from mechanical ventilation skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- Teaching Hospital Experience.
- Community Hospital Experience.
- Trauma Level I and II Experience.
Special Considerations:
- On-call required as needed.
- Must be able to float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Level I trauma center.
- Magnet hospital/facility.
Scheduling:
- 3x12 Nights or 4x12s ).
- Every other weekend required.
- Discuss schedule requests with manager.
- Client may call-off up to 36 hours per thirteen week assignment without paying for the cancelled hours.
