Overview
The Resiliency, Security and Safety Director manages all designated elements of Resiliency, Security and Safety. The Director provides professional, managerial skills related to business continuity planning, crisis management, and project management. The Director supports the Line of Business (LOB) partners in developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans, conducts a business impact analysis, a business interruption risk assessment, and recovery gap analysis, and produces executive‑level summaries and recommendations for remediation. The Director capitalizes on business opportunities to refine production processes and mitigate exposure during disruptions of service without adversely affecting day‑to‑day operations. The Director has regular interaction with Executive Management and the Board of Directors and indirectly facilitates others in the development of continuity and recovery documentation across the Bank. This position holds a high level of responsibility for business continuity and disaster recovery for the Bank.
What You’ll Do
- Provide leadership and recommendations in managing the work and activities involved in conducting and planning efforts to improve protection, resiliency, and reliability.
- Manage the maintenance and testing of IT Disaster Recovery Plans and coordinate plan objectives with the continuity plans from the business units.
- Responsible for high‑level business continuity and disaster recovery strategies essential to the sound business operations of the bank.
- Manage and coordinate the development and assessment of recovery strategies including backup procedures, data and file system replication, archiving, caching, record retention, system restoration procedures, and high availability solutions.
- Establish scope and objectives of Disaster Recovery tests at off‑site locations, schedule test timing and resources accordingly, and coordinate and evaluate the DR testing.
- Work closely with IT teams to align business continuity strategy with the IT Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and stay current on planned infrastructure and application changes to ensure timely and accurate updates to the DRP.
- Hold specialized knowledge and certifications such as CISSP, CBCP, PMP, ITIL, or CRISC.
- Have a solid understanding of business processes analysis and improvement strategies as well as technology and data dependencies within the IT infrastructure and how they affect recovery strategies.
- Act as a bridge between IT and business process owners.
- Conduct business impact analysis, risk assessments, gap analysis, and executive summaries.
- Design, develop, and document LOB partners’ business continuity plans.
- Coordinate yearly business continuity and disaster recovery plan exercises, including crisis management plan table‑top exercises and event‑specific scenarios such as pandemic, active shooter, etc.
- Develop schedules for training content and awareness for LOB partners and their staff.
- Coordinate development of business unit schedules for annual business continuity documentation maintenance, updates, exercises, and independent review and validation.
- Prepare and present Board approval documentation to ensure top‑level understanding and approval of all plans, including status of recovery capabilities that define gaps and risks to the bank’s resiliency.
- Report business continuity status of business units to executive management.
- Provide expertise and support to management and business functional areas when a business disruption occurs.
- Serve as lead coordinator and point of contact during crisis situations; must be available as first‑responder and primary point of contact and coordinator during any disaster scenario.
Qualifications
- 5‑7 years of progressive experience in developing business continuity plans, disaster recovery plans, and crisis management plans; emergency management, handling crisis situations, and/or related knowledge, preferably in banking or a highly regulated industry.
- 5‑7 years of experience leading projects affecting disparate departments and job functions, including time‑management challenges and influencing others to prioritize responsibilities appropriately.
- Experience creating and executing all phases of a Business Continuity Program for a financial services organization leveraging third‑party and cloud providers.
- Project management and crisis management skills are critical for plan development with emphasis on execution across multiple banking centers.
- Significant prior experience creating a business continuity program and managing all aspects of disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
- Extensive experience writing business impact analysis, risk assessments, gap analysis, business continuity, disaster recovery, and crisis management plans.
- Good working knowledge of information technology.
- Comfortable performing executive and Board‑level status briefings and preparing such briefings with minimal supervision.
- Extensive project management skills, especially with IT and security‑related projects.
- Ability to interface and coordinate work efficiently and effectively with business partners and executive management.
- Strong analytical, organizational, administrative, and decision‑making skills with effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve target dates.
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills.
- Strong understanding of data center operations and critical dependencies.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project).
- Knowledge of regulatory bodies and guidance issued by FDIC, FinCEN, Federal Reserve Board, and OCC.
- A persuasive leader who can serve as an effective member of the management team and communicate security‑related concepts to a broad range of technical and non‑technical staff.
- Travel and off‑hour, on‑call support required.
Licenses / Certifications
- CISSP, CBCP, PMP, ITIL, or CRISC
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or a related field of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
