Job Summary:

The University of Mississippi's National Center for PhysicalAcoustics (NCPA) is seeking a Research Scientist I to work withNCPA staff and students to develop and design unique andstate-of-the-art acoustic signal processing algorithms andsoftware. This position requires the successful applicant to havedemonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systemsemploying sensors for signal processing or control, as well asapplying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple-channeldata. Demonstrated knowledge of applied linear algebra andexperience translating mathematical solutions into software isrequired as well as the ability to develop research proposals,prepare and deliver technical presentations, and preparemanuscripts for journal publication. Demonstrated projectleadership and successful mentoring of students is required.Knowledge of physical acoustics, array signal processingtechniques, and C++ are highly desirable. The selected candidatemust be eligible for U.S. Security Clearance.

Job Description:

  • Demonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple-channel data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applied linear algebra and experience translating mathematical solutions into software.
  • Demonstrated project leadership and successful mentoring of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop research proposals, prepare and deliver technical presentations, and prepare manuscripts for journal publication.

Minimum Qualifications:

(Applicants must meet the postedminimum qualifications for the position at the time of completingand submitting an application.)

1. PhD in a relevant field of engineering or science (ComputerScience, Engineering, Physics, or a related field)

2. A minimum of nine (9) years of relevant experienceincluding:

  • Demonstrated experience developing mathematical models of systems employing sensors for signal processing or control
  • Demonstrated experience in applying statistical data analysis techniques to multiple-channel data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applied linear algebra and experience translating mathematical solutions into software.

3. Must qualify for US Security Clearance.
