EngineerOur Systems Technology group, a part of Roche Sequencing Solutions, is focused on creating and advancing technologies to significantly enhance DNA sequencing workflows, push system performance, and promote sustainability. We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented engineer to join the effort. As an engineer, you will tackle a variety of tasks and projects that will help us advance our technology and hardware related to our next-generation DNA sequencing systems. Your efforts will cover many aspects related to the fabrication, assembly and testing of custom devices, fixtures, breadboards and prototypes.Specific responsibilities may include:Using equipment and techniques such as CNC milling/machining, laser cutting and 3D printing to create and modify partsOperating, repairing and maintaining various lab equipment and instruments, including custom systemsConducting various microfabrication-related activities such as cleaning substrates, using photolithography equipment, etching and bondingFabricating and assembling mesofluidic and microfluidic devices and systemsTesting, characterizing and optimizing device and system performanceCollecting data, documenting observations and helping to analyze and interpret resultsUtilizing various types of metrology instruments to characterize parts and evaluate manufacturing methodsCollaborating with other scientists and engineers to generate test plans, protocols and reportsThe ideal candidate shall exhibit a high degree of motivation, ingenuity and resourcefulness to help us solve problems, invent new technology and develop cutting-edge products. The candidate should also have 1-5 years of industry experience fabricating parts, assembling devices or instruments, performing tests and troubleshooting systems. A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or similar discipline is required. The candidate should have a solid understanding of engineering fundamentals, the ability to work independently, with little to no supervision, a meticulous mindset, a positive, friendly, proactive attitude and a passion for science and technology. A desire to learn and be challenged is also important.
Experience with Solidworks and CAM software, fabricating, assembling and testing electro-mechanical and fluidic systems, and working in a cleanroom is preferred.
