Contribute to the research and product development effort of the company, under the supervision of a staff scientist / staff engineer, group leader or technology leader. Position is located in Cleveland, OH.
Key Accountabilities
- Conceive, plan, execute, and document laboratory experiments and technical development projects that support business objectives, customer needs, and strategic initiatives.
- Apply scientific principles and technical expertise to develop innovative products, improve existing formulations, troubleshoot manufacturing and customer issues, and solve complex technical challenges.
- Maintain current knowledge of scientific literature, industry trends, competitive technologies, regulations, and emerging materials applicable to foundry binders, coatings, additives, and related products.
- Design, analyze, and interpret experimental data using sound statistical and scientific methods; prepare clear technical reports and communicate findings and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
- Support the scale‑up and commercialization of new products by collaborating with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Regulatory, Sales, and Technical Service teams.
- Work directly with customers through technical visits, trials, and process evaluations to understand application requirements, optimize product performance, and identify opportunities for new product development.
- Develop new laboratory methods, test procedures, analytical techniques, and standard operating procedures to improve product evaluation, efficiency, and data quality.
- Generate innovative ideas, inventions, and intellectual property through new product and process development; contribute to patent disclosures where appropriate.
- Evaluate the technical feasibility, commercial viability, and market potential of new concepts and technologies.
- Maintain accurate laboratory electronic data systems, and technical documentation in accordance with company policies and quality requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements while promoting a strong culture of safety throughout the laboratory.
- Supervise laboratory technicians by assigning work, establishing priorities, reviewing results, providing coaching and performance feedback, and supporting professional development.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously by establishing priorities, timelines, budgets, and resource requirements while meeting project milestones.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory productivity, product quality, technical capability, and operational efficiency.
- Serve as a recognized technical expert within the organization by providing guidance, mentoring colleagues, and supporting cross‑functional teams on technical matters.
- Represent the company professionally through customer interactions, supplier meetings, industry conferences, technical presentations, and professional organizations.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education required
M.Sc. in chemistry, material science, chemical engineering or related field. B.Sc. or equivalents thereof in related fields, in addition to 5+ years of experience.
