Performance Engineer – Distributed Energy Resources (DER) National Team
McKinstry is seeking a Performance Engineer to join our growing Distributed Energy Resources (DER) National team. The role focuses on technical and consulting services related to building performance and renewable energy systems.
Responsibilities
- Help clients improve efficiency and lower operating costs on new and exciting projects.
- Ensure buildings deliver maximum comfort for the life of the building.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections on DER projects including solar PV and BESS.
- Perform quality‑control inspections throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Develop, manage, and coordinate project‑specific commissioning plans.
- Perform commissioning activities on building systems such as solar PV and BESS.
- Verify building‑system compliance with engineering specifications.
- Review system installation, functional performance, and control‑system operations.
- Coordinate networking configurations and SCADA systems with DER projects.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading quality new‑construction commissioning projects and quality management.
- 3–5+ years of MEP experience.
- North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) professional certification preferred.
- Willingness to travel to new project locations for technical services delivery.
- Proficient use of building automation systems.
- Knowledge of solar and BESS systems, including associated equipment (BMS, communications, trackers, MV, testing).
- Ability to read, understand, and identify potential issues within construction documents.
- Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Teams, Excel, Word). Procore and Cx Alloy proficiency preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, architectural, or electrical engineering or equivalent work experience preferred.

Pay range is $84,060 – $122,760 per year; base pay may vary by location and experience. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package.
