Relief Emergency Veterinarian | Craven County, NC
We are recruiting on behalf of a state-of-the-art, privately owned GP/Emergency hybrid hospital in Craven County that is looking for a dependable ER Relief Veterinarian to cover a long-term maternity leave assignment beginning February 2027.
This hybrid hospital runs general practice during the day and full emergency service overnight and on Sundays, meaning there are no stressful day-to-ER transfers and a consistent standard of care throughout. With a member of the ER team heading out on maternity leave, the hospital has a significant, ongoing overnight coverage need and is looking for a skilled emergency vet who can commit to the assignment long-term.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants the autonomy of overnight ER work in a genuinely well-equipped hospital, without the unpredictability of one-off bookings. You will work consistent, scheduled shifts throughout the assignment, allowing you to build familiarity with the team, systems, and caseload rather than adjusting to a new environment every time.
The role will involve a varied overnight emergency caseload, including stabilization, triage, and emergency surgery such as pyometras, C-sections, and foreign body removals. You will be the sole doctor on shift, supported by a strong, tiered technician team throughout the night. The hospital also sees a fair number of exotic patients, so a willingness to examine and treat guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, and lizards is appreciated, though prior exotics expertise is not required.
