Job TitleIncumbents in these positions are physicians assigned to a County Physician Registry and licensed to render professional medical services in a specific field on an hourly as needed basis.Essential Job FunctionsPerforms medical work in ambulatory and in-patient environments, including primary, specialty and surgical fields.Prescribes drugs and/or therapy, monitors patients' progress, records observations and changes, and adjusts treatments as required.Consults with staff physicians and paramedical personnel regarding care of patients and/or medical and diagnostic work performed.Provides consultation to other medical services, including specialists in other fields.Maintains varied hours on a rotated schedule with other physicians to ensure that there is always a physician available.Confers with medical and professional personnel in such related fields as toxicology in order to discover the main and contributing causes of death.Conducts more difficult post mortem examinations.Certifies as to the cause of death and testifies in court as an expert witness.RequirementsMinimum requirements: Completion of a residency program approved by an American Specialty Board in one or more designated specialties or equivalent training.Specialty requirements: Residencies may include: Anesthesiology, Dermatology, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Otolaryngology, Pathology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Radiology, Surgery, and more.License: California State Physician and Surgeon's Certificate authorized by the Board of Medical Examiners of the State of California.A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.Physical Class III: Moderate: Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
