Senior Relay TechnicianThe Senior Relay Technician is responsible for maintaining, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting high-voltage transmission substation protection and control systems. This role provides technical leadership for relay testing, SCADA systems, equipment maintenance, contractor oversight, and compliance activities while supporting reliable electric system operations throughout West Texas.Perform and oversee installation, maintenance, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, and switching of relay and substation equipmentConduct SCADA checkouts and troubleshoot communication issuesLead internal and contract crews during testing and commissioning activitiesAnalyze diagnostic test results for protection and control systemsMaintain vehicles, tools, and testing equipmentPrepare reports and maintain compliance documentationCoordinate with contractors, engineers, vendors, and stakeholdersAssist with scheduling, planning, and restoration activitiesParticipate in an on-call rotationHigh school diploma requiredAssociate's or bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology preferredMinimum 10 years of experience in substation protection and control maintenanceExperience with high-voltage substations, commissioning, and switching activitiesExperience with NERC compliance reporting and documentationExperience with breakers, transformers, switches, relays, RTUs, and SCADA systemsKnowledge of ERCOT protocols and operating guidesExtensive experience with SEL and GE relays, logic, and softwareProficiency with SCADA protocols including DNP3, Modbus, and SEL Fast MessageAbility to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection logicKnowledge of NERC CIP, PRC, and FAC standardsWorking knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, ICEA, NESC, and NETA standardsExperience with Doble RTS, Protection Suite, and Omicron Test UniverseStrong troubleshooting, communication, organization, and safety skillsThermography Level I or II preferredOSHA, NESC, NETA, SEL University, or similar training preferredPaid time off, including PTO, holidays, floating holidays, and sabbatical opportunitiesComprehensive health and wellness benefits, including parental leaveEmployer-matching 401(k) planCollaborative, team-focused work environmentAffordable cost of living compared to many major metropolitan areasStrong energy industry presence and career opportunitiesEasy access to outdoor recreation, parks, and open spacesConvenient access to Midland and other West Texas communities
