Rehabilitation Aide

SUMMARY:nnThe Rehabilitation Aide reports directly to the Clinical Managerssistant Clinical Manager and performs duties under the supervision of the Rehabilitation professionals. The Rehabilitation Aide assists clinicians in providing treatments designed to relieve pain and maximize functions of patients across the Brown University Health. The Rehabilitation Aide transports patients, maintains supply inventory, and prepares and cleans treatment areas. The core Success Factors include:nnInstill Trust and Value DifferencesnPatient and Community Focus and CollaboratennRESPONSIBILITIES:nnPrincipal Duties:nOnce deemed competent, and in accordance with the established treatment plan, the rehabilitation aide:nAssists therapists and assistants in patient care as requestednCarries out patient intervention per therapist or assistant direction, including positioning, mobilizing, and exercising patientnThe supervising Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, or Audiologist will be present on the premises and immediately available to the Rehabilitation Aide when providing treatment. A Physical Therapist Assistant or Occupational Therapy Assistant may also provide supervision, but must be on the premises, in line of sight, and immediately available.nAdditional Duties:nMaintains gym and all treatment areas to Environment of Care (EOC) standards.nAssists with EOC safety roundsnEnters work orders as applicable to gym and treatment areasnMaintains cleanliness of department equipment per infection control policies and equipment guidelinesnMaintains equipment logsnEnsures that rehabilitation equipment, including but not limited to: wheelchairs, walkers and crutches, are clean and functionalnCleans and prepares treatment areas between patient usenMaintains and inventories therapeutic supplies, equipment, linen, and housekeeping suppliesnTransports patients to and from treatment areas, exercising care in the handling of patientsnMay assist with scheduling, order entry, charge reconciliation, and scanning into Electronic Health RecordnCommunicates in person or by fax/phone with patients, providers, healthcare team members, referral sources, and payersnAssists with departmental statistics and quality assurance, program evaluation and environmental and infection control activitiesnParticipates in meetings as requirednPerforms other related duties as assigned or requestednnMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:nnBASIC KNOWLEDGE:nInterpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with patients and other members of the healthcare team.nDemonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to assist with providing care to patients throughout the Brown University Health, with consideration of the aging process, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.nEffective verbal and non-verbal communication skills.nProficient using Microsoft Excel and Word software programs.nEXPERIENCE:nHigh School graduate or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred.nOne-year related experience in fitness training or direct patient care such as a Rehabilitation Aide or CNA position required.nWORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:nPhysical ability to lift, position and transport patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, crouching, and kneeling.nFrequent walking, standing, and lifting of equipment and patients.nSome exposure to communicable diseases and cleaning agents/chemicals.nModerate physical effort (lift and carry up to 25-35 lbs.).nINDEPENDENT ACTION:nPerforms independently within department policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.nSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:nMay direct volunteersnterns to assist with tasks related to environment of care.
