Regulatory Support Engineer
AIS is looking for a Regulatory Support Engineer to work in Oak Ridge, TN. The Regulatory Support Engineer provides direct technical, analytical, and coordination support to the Regulatory Affairs Lead within ORNL's HFIR Updates and Neutron Upgrades Projects. This position plays a critical role in supporting regulatory compliance activities, safety basis documentation development, environmental compliance coordination, and regulatory engagement preparation for one of the nation's most important nuclear research facilities. Working under the direction of the Regulatory Support Lead, this role interfaces with nuclear safety staff, engineers, environmental specialists, and project stakeholders to ensure regulatory requirements are clearly interpreted, documented, tracked, and implemented. The Specialist contributes to maintaining compliance with DOE, NRC, and applicable state and federal regulations while supporting ORNL's strong nuclear safety culture. Qualifications Education and Experience:
- BS degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering science, or a related technical field with 5+ years of relevant experience (or MS with 3+ years, PhD with 1+ years)
- Experience supporting regulatory compliance activities in a nuclear, DOE, or highly regulated technical environment.
- Working knowledge of DOE and/or NRC regulatory frameworks and safety basis documentation.
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, or regulatory reviews.
- Strong technical writing, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, multidisciplinary project environment.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Experience supporting DOE nuclear facilities, reactor projects, or nuclear facility upgrades.
- Familiarity with safety basis documentation (DSA, TSRs, hazard analyses).
- Knowledge of environmental compliance requirements applicable to nuclear facilities.
- Experience tracking regulatory commitments, corrective actions, or requirements management tools.
- Demonstrated commitment to nuclear safety culture and quality assurance.

- Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
- This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
