Torrey Pines Animal Hospital | Carmel Valley, San Diego
Full-Time | $35/hour | Four 10-Hour Shifts
If you’re a credentialed Registered Veterinary Technician who can place a catheter like a pro, takes anesthesia monitoring seriously, loves a beautifully organized surgical setup, and wants to work somewhere your knowledge is genuinely valued — we should talk.
Torrey Pines Animal Hospital (TPAH) is a privately owned veterinary hospital in Carmel Valley where we take excellent medicine seriously without taking ourselves too seriously.
We’re looking for an experienced RVT to join our team at $35/hour and work alongside doctors and support staff who recognize that great veterinary medicine simply doesn’t happen without great technicians.
Our RVTs are an integral part of our medical team. We want you using the skills you worked hard to learn.
Depending on the day, you may be:
- Placing IV catheters and drawing blood
- Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia
- Running surgical and dental procedures alongside our doctors
- Taking diagnostic and dental radiographs
- Performing dental cleanings
- Preparing and evaluating ear, skin, and fecal cytology
- Running our in-house laboratory equipment
- Calculating and administering medications
- Caring for hospitalized and recovering patients
- Using low-stress, thoughtful restraint techniques
- Keeping surgical cases organized and moving safely
- Educating clients and advocating for your patients
- Helping keep treatment and exam-room flow moving efficiently
- Catching the little details before they become big ones
And yes — sometimes you'll still clean up poop. It is veterinary medicine, after all.
We believe our team should have the tools necessary to practice exceptional medicine. Our hospital offers:
- Full in-house diagnostic laboratory
- Digital radiography
- Dental radiography
- Comprehensive surgical suite
- Advanced anesthetic monitoring
- Cold laser therapy
- Modern electronic/paper-lite medical records through Shepherd Veterinary Software
- A team that is always looking for ways to make medicine safer, smarter, and more efficient
You don't need to know absolutely everything — none of us do. But you should be credentialed, clinically confident, dependable, curious, and willing to keep learning.
You'll probably fit in well here if you:
- Take pride in excellent patient care
- Are confident with anesthesia and surgical nursing
- Have strong technical and pharmacology knowledge
- Can work independently while still being a team player
- Communicate clearly with doctors, coworkers, and pet parents
- Stay organized when the hospital gets busy
- Speak up when something doesn't look right
- Accept feedback and aren't afraid to give thoughtful feedback either
- Understand that every patient deserves an advocate
- Can laugh with your coworkers while still knowing when it's time to lock in and get things done
Above all, we're looking for someone who genuinely cares about the medicine, the patient, and the team standing beside them.
This is a full-time position working four 10-hour shifts per week.
Some flexibility for weekends and holidays is appreciated because, unfortunately, our patients have yet to learn how to schedule their illnesses exclusively Monday through Friday.
Starting pay: $35/hour
Full-time team members are also eligible for:
- Medical insurance
- Dental and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- Paid time off
- Continuing education support
- Generous employee pet-care discounts
- Opportunities to expand your technical skills and professional growth
We're proud to be a privately owned veterinary hospital where decisions can still be made with our patients, clients, and team in mind.
We want our RVTs practicing like RVTs.
We want technicians who ask questions, make suggestions, advocate for their patients, learn new things, teach each other, and take ownership of the medicine they're helping provide.
We're serious about exceptional medicine, anesthesia safety, patient comfort, teamwork, and doing things the right way.
But we're also humans who spend ten-hour shifts together, so being kind, collaborative, adaptable, and able to laugh along the way matters too.
If you're looking for a hospital where your credential matters, your skills are utilized, your voice is heard, and your contribution to patient care is recognized , we'd love to meet you.
Apply today and come see what veterinary medicine can feel like when technicians are truly part of the medical team.
