Summary

A Registered Polysomnography Technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director (MD, DO, or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders, including in‑center and out‑of‑center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education. The technologist is credentialed in sleep technology and can oversee other sleep center staff.

Responsibilities

  • Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact‑free and identifies and corrects signal abnormalities.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Scores sleep studies accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Exercises independent clinical judgment when immediate medical direction is not available, within the scope of practice.
  • Evaluates situations or patient conditions requiring clinical intervention to prevent patient deterioration.

Required

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist by BRPT.
  • Successful completion of a sleep technology program at a state‑licensed and/or nationally accredited facility, or an accredited educational program leading to a certificate or associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology.

Preferred

  • At least one year of experience performing sleep studies, including PAP titrations (e.g., CPAP, BiLevel).
