• Employment Type: Full time - Nights
• Compensation: Starting at $34/hr (eligible for increase based on experience); Shift Differentials and Sign‑on Bonuses available
• Schedule: Days worked on a rotating schedule; weekend requirement; 36 hrs/week; 7:00pm – 7:30am
• Primary Location: Main Hospital – Grand Rapids, MI

Summary

Registered nurses are key members of the multi‑disciplinary team that collaborate to provide patient‑centered care. RNs coordinate, direct, delegate, and provide care to multiple patients while following departmental policies and service standards. Patient and family education is a primary focus of rehabilitation nursing, helping patients gain independence, apply adaptation strategies, and return home.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Provide patient care, treatment, and services within the scope of license, certification, or registration and as required by law and regulation.
• Apply the Quality Pillar of Excellence:
  • Quality Nursing Care – assess patients, develop patient‑centered plans aligned with physician and interdisciplinary priorities; delegate care to non‑licensed staff ensuring adherence to policies.
  • Quality Improvement – participate in performance improvement, report unexpected events or near misses, assist with data collection and documentation audits.
  • Patient Safety – promote patient safety, identify and report incidents, communicate with Nursing Leadership.
  • Customer Service – deliver excellent customer service, manage confidential information, recover from service issues, respect cultural and religious needs.
  • Physician and Colleague Relationships – maintain effective relationships with physicians and other disciplines.
• Employee Competency – demonstrate competency to meet regulatory and accreditation requirements within specified time frames.

• Employee Safety – follow policies related to employee safety, reduce risks, and maintain a safe work environment.
• Staff Selection, Development & Mentoring – assist with selection and orientation of new team members; collaborate with Clinical Care Coordinator and Nurse Educator for orientation and mentoring.
• Student Preceptor and Mentoring – collaborate to provide clinical rotation for RN students.
• Financial Performance – follow fiscal policies, identify cost‑saving opportunities, and provide high‑value nursing care at reasonable cost.

Essential Job Qualifications

• Licensure: Registered Nurse in the state of Michigan.
• Education: Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Certification: Registered Rehabilitation Nurse preferred; newly hired staff must become Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) by their third anniversary. Mary Free Bed will fund training and certification.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience: Prior experience as an RN in rehabilitation or acute care preferred but not required.
• Skills: Strong critical thinking, decision‑making, delegation, leadership, time‑management, organizational, written and verbal communication, problem‑solving under time constraints.

Physical Requirements

• None – no specific physical requirements.
• Occasionally (≤1/3): Remain stationary, traverse work location, use keyboard, operate equipment, ascend/descend equipment or ladder, position self, receive and communicate information, transport up to 10 pounds.
• Frequently (1/3–2/3): Same tasks as above with transport up to 25 pounds.
• Majority (>2/3): Same tasks as above with transport up to 50 pounds.
