Overview

The General Surgery Team provides patient-centered care within a fast-paced Level 1 Trauma Center. Types of cases include: Acute Care Surgery, Colorectal, General Surgery, Endocrinology, Urology, Gynecology, and oncology.

Employment Details

Employment Type: Full time
Shift: Rotating Shift
Pay Range: $35.64 - $49.53 – depends on experience/licensure date
On-call response time: 30 minutes
Rotating on-call and weekend/holiday shifts.
All levels of nurses will be considered – both new graduates and experienced encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • BSN degree or written agreement to obtain BSN within five (5) years of hire, or transfer to an RN role.
  • Current Michigan Nursing License.
  • BLS certification.

Required Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of nursing theory, practice, and age-specific needs.
Interpersonal skills to initiate and maintain collegial relationships with coworkers and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
Critical thinking skills necessary to perform principal duties and responsibilities of the job.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care.

Responsibilities

  • View patients holistically; consider physical, psychosocial, emotional, age-specific, cultural, and spiritual factors. Demonstrate appropriate assessment skills for identified patient populations.
  • Gather and analyze patient information, then respond to patient situations using critical thinking.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and revise individualized care plans using evidence-based interventions and standards of care. Identify needs and plan for care across the continuum considering patient and family preferences.
  • Identify patient and family education needs. Develop and implement teaching plans based on evidence-based practice, using teach‑back methodology and additional resources as necessary. Ensure resources for discharge readiness and collaborate with other disciplines.
  • Create an environment that promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing (including EMR documentation) that is accurate, timely, concise, and thorough. Effectively communicate patient status, priority goals, and interventions to colleagues and disciplines during consultation, rounds, and handoffs.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approach conflict constructively, offering solutions and participating in resolution.
