Overview
Responsible for performing safe and effective cardiac stress tests, pacemaker checks, arrhythmia surveillance monitoring, and assisting with diagnostic procedures. Delivers individualized quality patient care through a coordinated team approach with physicians, staff, other departments and the patient’s family. Complies with applicable nursing practice standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform safe and effective cardiac stress tests (treadmills, thallium treadmill tests, pharmacological stress tests, stress echocardiograms, and pharmacologic stress echocardiograms).
- Conduct pacemaker checks and arrhythmia surveillance monitoring.
- Prepare patients for and assist with diagnostic procedures, including transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs), cardioversions, tilt-table tests, and blood pressure monitoring for a group of patients.
- Deliver individualized quality patient care through a coordinated team approach with physicians, staff, other departments and the patient’s family.
- Comply with the California Nurse Practice Act, Article 2, Section 2725 of the Business and Professions Code.
Qualifications
- Required : Graduated from an approved School of Nursing; Current license as a Registered Nurse in California; BCLS and ACLS certification; Evidence of continuing education and self-development; Minimum of two (2) years experience in a Cardiovascular unit; Demonstrates teaching ability in a formal and/or informal setting; Knowledge of diagnostic tests and their preparations; Knowledge and experience with administering IV and PO drugs and their possible adverse reactions; Competent with patient evaluation, physical assessment, and interviewing techniques; Knowledge of the legal aspects of nursing; Successfully passing safety, cultural sensitivity, and blood pathogen classes; Knowledge and experience with conscious sedation medications and their reversal agents; Knowledge and demonstrated skill using monitors and associated equipment (e.g., infusion pumps, temporary pacemakers, O2 equipment, SPO2 monitors, EKG machines, defibrillators).
- Preferred : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); Two years of ICU experience.
