Position Overview

The Registered Nurse is a professional nurse who is educated in the art and science of nursing, with the goal of assisting patients attain, maintain, and restore health when possible. Competency is determined by demonstrated possession of the knowledge, attitudes, and skills required for this position. The registered nurse provides patient care utilizing the Nursing Process within the MS Nurse Practice Act, ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, accreditation standards, CDC Guidelines for Infection Control, and SRHS Departments of Nursing Plan for Provision of Care, Treatment, and Services. This performance evaluation is based on these standards.

Education

Graduate from NLN School of Nursing

License

Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Mississippi.

• Cath Lab – ACLS
• Cardiac Rehab – ACLS
• Congestive Heart Failure – ACLS
• Cardiovascular Surgery – ACLS
• Emergency Department – ACLS, PALS, TNCC
• Intensive Care Units – ACLS
• Labor & Delivery – ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
• Medical Nursing – OB/GYN – PALS
• Nursery – NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation)
• Pediatrics – PALS
• PACU/Recovery – ACLS, PALS

RNs have 12 months from the date they begin working in the specialty area to acquire the appropriate certification and 18 months to acquire TNCC certification for the Emergency Department.

Must have de‑escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de‑escalation training.

Experience

A minimum of one (1) year of inpatient clinical experience is preferred. Experience must be within the past five (5) years, or evidence of a successful refresher program.

Physical Demands

Work is moderately active: involves sitting with frequent requirements to move about the facility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work involves many physical motions and exposure to bodily fluids, sputum, and tissues, which may carry infectious disease hazards. Work involves repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers while operating standard office equipment such as a computer keyboard. Work requires the ability to perceive sound, moderate visual acuity, and maintain active periods without undue fatigue. Work may involve schedule changes according to hospital needs.

Mental Demands

Must demonstrate keen mental faculties, assessment and decision‑making abilities, and superior communication skills for verbal and written context. Must have emotional stability conducive to high stress, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain collaborative relationships with SRHS and other organizations.

Special Demands

Must possess superior customer service skills, professional etiquette, and proficient knowledge of computer use (keyboard, MS Outlook, Word) and office technology (telephone, fax, etc.). Must demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
