Job Overview

UNC Health is hiring a Registered Nurse (Clinical Nurse II), preferably having at least 1 year of nursing experience, to join the Children's Operating Room (OR) in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, serving the Triangle area. This full‑time, night shift OR nursing role offers the opportunity to care for pediatric surgical patients in a Level I Trauma, academic medical center setting. The position is eligible for relocation assistance, commitment incentive, and tuition loan forgiveness as part of the UNC Health Incentive Program.

The Children's Operating Room at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill consists of six operating suites , averaging 20‑25 surgical cases per day . OR nurses may be cross‑trained to support multiple pediatric specialty services.

Schedule & Shift

• 36 hours per week
• Variable, including weekends
• Shift differentials may apply

Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs, attend education programs, use patient education materials, assess readiness and developmental level of patient/caregivers.
• Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, seek guidance on care plans, engage in interdisciplinary discussion, communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation – Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, perform bedside point of care testing, use organization and nursing standards, prioritize care, consult with resources for complex cases and discharge planning.
• Leadership – Develop goals to promote professional growth, achieve objectives, facilitate interdepartmental collaboration, participate in unit goals and performance improvement, use communication systems, promote cost-effective care, give feedback, ensure a safe, clean environment.
• Patient Assessment – Recognize data to determine priorities, incorporate physical, psychosocial, educational and safety needs, synthesize assessment for communication, anticipate discharge needs, develop relationships with families.
• Planning – Collaborate with patient/family on care plans, use multidisciplinary resources, communicate planning, address cultural and ethnic issues, prioritize tasks for complex cases.
• Research – Read relevant journals, bring ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.

Education Requirements

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing or a master’s degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

Professional Experience Requirements

• One year of nursing experience.

Compensation

Salary Range: $35.58 - $54.42 per hour (Hiring Range).
