The Nurse uses a team approach to healthcare, applying nursingprocesses, medical procedure and testing, critical thinking andreferral. Effectively interacts with students, parents, physiciansand other health care providers with the aim of assisting studentsto assume responsibility for their own health and wellness.

This is a per-diem opportunity, Sunday through Thursday 7p-7ashifts available. The Health Center operates 24/7 and follows theacademic calendar when students are on campus (September throughthe 1st week of June & 1st week of July through 1st week ofAugust).

Job Responsibilities

Health and Well-Being Promotion

  • Performs comprehensive physical assessments independent ofother nursing colleagues.
  • Uses critical thinking in evaluating the needs of each student,making appropriate referrals as needed to NP/PA/MD, counselors,athletic trainers, nutritionist and/or outside MDs.
  • Ensures that physicians and outside providers are providedcomprehensive diagnostic information.

Personal Nursing Care

  • Independently initiates and implements nursing care plan.
  • Works as part of a team to provide care for crisisintervention, acute illness, injury, and emotional concerns.
  • Admits students to Health Center for overnight observation andtreatment.
  • Draws blood, calls in prescriptions, dispenses medications,administers immunizations, and performs other medical proceduresand tests as deemed necessary and ordered by NP/PA/MD.
  • Observes students who pose safety concerns.

General Health Services Support

  • Develops relationships of trust built on respect, ethics,professionalism and effective communications.
  • Uses effective teaching and counseling skills.
  • Uses concise, thorough documentation to promote continuityofcare and keep health records complete, accurate andup-to-date.
  • Effectively communicates with parents, faculty, health servicesteam, and outside providers while maintaining appropriateconfidentiality.
  • Follows LHWC protocol and procedures, adheres to NH Board ofNursing scope of practice, and maintains competencies.

Position Requirements

Education

  • RN with current nursing license required.

Experience

  • 3 - 5 years nursing experience.
  • 1-2 years critical care nursing preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational settingpreferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of professional nursing principles, methodsand procedures; anatomy and physiology applicable to assignedduties; and medical supplies and equipment used in nursingpractice.
  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, anorientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency inall aspects of Academy life.
  • Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately and takeprompt action.
  • Working knowledge of applicable state and federal laws andregulations pertaining to registered nursing.
  • Patient assessment skills.
  • Ability to apply good clinical judgment.
  • Ability to plan work, establishes priorities, and remainsflexible.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours,weekends, and holidays

  • Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trustand credibility.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills as well as astrong customer focus.
  • A strict adherence to confidential policies is required.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple prioritiesand deadlines simultaneously.
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications asneeded.
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to beflexible and multi-task with accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain aprofessional demeanor and restraint at all times, includingstressful situations.

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position (e.g., sitting orstanding) for extended periods while performing clinical duties anddocumentation.
  • Ability to move about the health center, go up and down flightsof steps, stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift. Ability torespond promptly to medical emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects weighing upto 25 pounds as necessary for clinical care (e.g., patients,supplies, equipment).
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform medical procedures,operate equipment, and use a computer or electronic medical recordsystem.
  • Adequate visual and auditory abilities to assess patients,monitor vital signs, and respond to emergency situationseffectively.
  • Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced environment with the abilityto prioritize and manage multiple tasks with interruptions.

Additional Requirements

  • Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewedevery 5 years).
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical/healthscreening examination.
  • This position is considered “Essential Personnel”
