Cardiac Progressive Care Unit Nurse
Shift Details
Three 12-hour day shifts, from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM.Weekend rotations and holiday coverage as required.
Scheduling
Staff schedules are arranged in six-week blocks using a self-managed system. Assignments consider departmental needs, patient acuity, skill mix, and previous shifts.
Experience and Qualifications
At least two years of relevant nursing experience is required. Nurses new to travel assignments are encouraged to apply.Charge RN experience is preferred.BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory; NIH certification is advantageous.Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records is expected.Experience with Rapid Response Teams is preferred.
Staffing Ratios and Support
Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5, adjusted to 1:4 when managing drips or BiPAP.Nurse Assistants are available around the clock.RN secretary support is provided daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
Required Skills and Clinical Competencies
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias and telemetry monitoring
- Pre- and post-cardiac catheterization care
- Peripheral and PICC line care and management
- Management and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Administration of procedural sedation
- Chest tube management, including Emerson and Pleur-evac systems
- Management of external CPAP and BiPAP devices
- Tracheostomy care
Patient Focus
Primary care is directed toward cardiac patients, including those with congestive heart failure, acute coronary syndrome, arrhythmias, pre- and post-cardiac catheterization (with or without intervention), myocardial infarction rule-out, syncope, and pacemaker placement.Secondary focus includes respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP management.
Unit Description
The unit consists of 30 private rooms within a Cardiac Medical Progressive Care department operating 24/7.Patient rooms are monitored remotely by a centralized cardiac monitoring team.
