Overview
Our amazing team at the Outpatient Orthopedic Surgery Clinic is looking for a motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to join us! This is an unique and exciting opportunity to advance your career in a specialized role where you will coordinate care for patients from intake through surgery. You will work closely with the orthopedic surgery team, supporting surgeons across our Short Pump, Downtown, and Stony Point Clinics.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate patient care from pre-op through post-op, ensuring a seamless surgical experience.
- Provide expert-level, age-specific nursing care based on medical orders and multidisciplinary treatment plans.
- Accurately document patient care, assessments, and responses to treatment.
- Safely administer prescribed medications, identifying potential interactions or incompatibilities.
- Serve as an Orthopedic Surgery Support Nurse, offering specialized expertise in orthopedic patient care.
- Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, recovery, and ongoing care.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote patient wellness and injury prevention.
What We’re Looking For
- Active RN license in Virginia.
- BSN or MSN preferred. All RNs must enroll and complete a BSN program within 5 years.
- BLS, ACLS certification (as required for role).
- Previous experience in orthopedic, perioperative, or surgical nursing is a plus.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills.

Licensure and Certification Requirements
- Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible compact state.
- AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent (for continued employment).
Experience Requirements
- Clinical Nurse I – Not applicable.
- Clinical Nurse II – 12 to 24 months RN experience.
- Clinical Nurse III – 3 years of clinical experience.
- Preferred: Academic Health Care experience; experience with similar patient population in acute care.
Education Requirements
- Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and approved by the state Board of Nursing.
- Registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing must enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of start date and complete within five years unless grandfathered.
Preferred Education
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program.
- Certification in specialty area (for Clinical Nurse III).
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN’s, LPN’s, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
Physical Requirements
- Physical: lifting 20-50 lbs; exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances.
- Activities: prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, frequent bending, walking, climbing steps/ladders, reaching overhead.
- Mental/Sensory: strong recall, reasoning, problem solving, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking.
- Emotional: fast-paced environment, steady pace, able to handle multiple priorities, frequent intense customer interactions, noisy environment.
