We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN), Operating Room to join the surgical services team supporting Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada .

You will work alongside a multidisciplinary healthcare team providing perioperative nursing care across elective, urgent, and emergency surgical procedures while supporting patients across the lifespan.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week .
Shifts are generally scheduled Monday through Friday and may consist of 8, 10, or 12-hour day shifts within the operating hours of:
6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
Occasional overtime may be required based on surgical caseload and patient care needs.
On-Call Rotation
Participation in an on-call rotation is required and may include weekday evenings, overnight hours, weekends, and federal holidays.
Typical on-call coverage includes:
- Weekdays from approximately 7:15 PM to 6:45 AM
- 24-hour coverage periods on weekends and federal holidays
- Minimal callback based on current operational needs
While on call, the RN must be able to report to the medical center within 30 minutes of notification .
What You Will Do
As an Operating Room RN, you will provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care and help ensure the safety, readiness, and effectiveness of the surgical environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing elective, urgent, and emergency surgical procedures
- Prepare and maintain operating rooms for scheduled procedures and surgical emergencies
- Circulate during surgical procedures and support the surgical team throughout all phases of care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care
- Conduct preoperative and postoperative patient assessments and education
- Prepare patients for surgery and communicate expectations related to their procedures
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, recovery room staff, intensive care teams, nursing units, and other healthcare professionals
- Assemble and verify appropriate equipment, supplies, medications, and materials for surgical procedures
- Maintain operating room equipment and environments in accordance with established safety and infection control standards
- Respond appropriately to surgical and medical emergencies, including cardiac, pulmonary, respiratory, and hemorrhagic events
- Initiate CPR and assist with advanced cardiac life support measures when clinically indicated
- Prepare and administer prescribed medications, blood, and blood products in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Safely operate and monitor specialized medical, therapeutic, and resuscitative equipment
- Monitor patients throughout the perioperative process and identify changes requiring clinical intervention
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic and written patient documentation
- Coordinate patient care across the continuum to support quality, safety, and optimal clinical outcomes
- Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and medical readiness activities
- Assist with orientation and competency development of newly assigned personnel
- Participate in continuing education and clinical competency activities
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, nurses, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Must have graduated from an accredited college or university approved by the appropriate state agency
- Nursing program must have been accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) at the time the program was completed
Operating Room Experience
- Minimum of 12 months of Operating Room nursing experience required
Experience must include operating room techniques such as:
- Preparing operating room units
- Preparing patients for surgery
- Assisting during surgical procedures
- Instrument and equipment sterilization procedures
- Supporting anesthesia providers with post-anesthesia recovery when PACU or ICU support is unavailable
Licensure
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any U.S. state
Certifications
Current certification required in:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Certifications must be through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross , as applicable.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to successfully complete required credentialing
- Ability to successfully pass a government background investigation and obtain the required security clearance
- Ability to report to Nellis AFB within 30 minutes when scheduled for on-call coverage
- Strong clinical judgment and ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, basic computer applications, and clinical documentation systems
Compensation
$50 per hour
Final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant Operating Room experience, employment options, and other applicable factors.
