Overview
As an integral member of the Yale New Haven Health System (YNHHS) healthcare team, the Registered Professional Nurse (RN) upholds the YNHHS mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives to provide the highest level of patient centered care. The RN practices professional nursing within the legal and ethical framework established by the Connecticut Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Scope and Standards for Nursing Practice, ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the YNHHS Professional Practice Model. The role of the RN includes leadership, delegation, collaboration, effective communication, and ensuring quality outcomes. YNHHS nurses practice in a framework of 'Achieving outcomes through Autonomy and Accountability'. We value Nursing Professional Governance and base our practice on evidence and data, always keeping the patient and family at the center.
Responsibilities
- Standards of Practice: The RN practice is guided by the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice (2015). It includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, care coordination, health teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
- Standards of Professional Performance: The RN demonstrates competence in ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, quality, professional evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health. The RN practices ethically, respects diversity, communicates effectively, collaborates, leads, seeks knowledge, integrates evidence, contributes to quality, evaluates practice, utilizes resources responsibly, and maintains environmental safety.
Qualifications
Education: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred. Current BCLS certification required within one month of hire.
Experience: All RNs encouraged to advance through the SPIRE clinical program.
Licensure: Must be licensed and registered in Connecticut. Certification in a clinical specialty is highly encouraged.
Physical Demands
Prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing, touch. Exposure to infectious diseases, physical, mental, and emotional stress, end-of-life situations. Must assist with patient handling, including lifting patients up to 300 pounds.
