Overview

Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health opened its doors this April as the first new full‑service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 25 years. The hospital integrates clinical care with community providers to establish a robust network of care for District residents, with a focus on residents of Wards 7 and 8. The facility offers 136 beds (with the potential to expand to 184), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and outpatient services, onsite 550‑car parking, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking an experienced Medical Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (Full Time). The RN delivers patient‑centered care across medical‑surgical and telemetry settings, performing comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in alignment with best practices and regulatory standards. The RN demonstrates clinical judgment, exceptional communication, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to support patients and families. The role requires thriving in a fast‑paced, evolving environment while maintaining professionalism and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive patient assessments and develops individualized plans of care based on clinical findings and patient needs
• Implements and evaluates nursing interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes across medical‑surgical and telemetry populations
• Monitors cardiac rhythms and recognizes, interprets, and responds to changes in patient condition
• Administers medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with physician orders, hospital policies, and nursing standards
• Collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care
• Provides patient and family education to support understanding of diagnoses, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and disease management
• Documents all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment by adhering to infection prevention, safety, and regulatory guidelines
• Prioritizes and manages multiple patients effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment
• Responds to emergencies and participates in rapid response and code situations as needed
• Supports patient throughput and flow by facilitating timely admissions, transfers, and discharges
• Serves as a patient advocate, ensuring respect, dignity, and culturally competent care at all times
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and performance improvement activities
• Precepts and mentors new staff and/or students as appropriate
• Demonstrates accountability for professional growth, maintaining required competencies, certifications, and continuing education

Qualifications

Education:

• Valid DC RN license
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• 2 years of acute care experience required
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
