Work Schedule: 7pm to 7am, full‑time & part‑time options available (benefits start at 24 hrs per week). Every 3rd weekend required.

Responsibilities
- Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient, ensuring understanding and comfort as outlined in the Population Specific Criteria.
- Identify opportunities for and give individualized customer service/patient care according to needs.
- Perform initial and ongoing assessment to determine patient’s ongoing nursing care needs.
- Include data from the patient or significant other(s) in the assessment as appropriate.
- Prioritize data collection according to patient’s immediate needs.
- Use assessment findings in discharge planning.
- Develop, review, and individualize the plan of care to address patient’s nursing needs for optimum outcomes.
- Collaborate with providers and other disciplines as appropriate.
- Provide teaching specific to the patient’s health‑care problem.
- Reflect continuous care needs and/or referrals for discharge/transfer in the plan of care.
- Implement interventions consistent with the established plan of care safely and appropriately.
- Follow unit nursing protocols and standards of care.
- Use current knowledge in nursing practice based on standards and research literature.
- Evaluate patient care to determine response to interventions for optimal outcomes.
- Monitor outcomes and document patient response to interventions.
- Evaluate patient capabilities and limitations related to nursing and medical interventions.
- Monitor patient and significant other(s) ability to manage care needs after dismissal.
- Provide comprehensive shift report (SBAR) to oncoming provider.
- Recognize and address patient/family capabilities and limitations (physical and mental).
- Perform technical skills competently and independently to assure patient safety.
- Learn new skills and equipment within area specifications and timeframe.
- Demonstrate correct and safe technique in equipment use according to policy.
- Follow appropriate procedure for obtaining, returning, or cleaning/disposing equipment and supplies.
- Maintain professional behavior, demeanor, and interactions to achieve the organization’s mission.
- Communicate effectively to solve problems at personal and unit level.
- Be approachable and professional with other health professionals, ancillary staff, patients, and family.

- Work within scope of practice as defined by State Nurse Practice Act.
- Observe precautions when administering hazardous medications or handling excreta from patients.
- Review, delegate, and evaluate plans for appropriate staff utilization according to the State Nurse Practice Act and professional standards.
- Ensure tasks are appropriate, personnel are competent, and communication is clear and complete.
- Act fiscally accountable.
- Charge accurately for supplies and equipment according to policy.
Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) required; or within 5 years of hire for nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- For MHC Surgery Main: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or BSN required.
- For NMH Oncology: Electrocardiogram (EKG) course required.
- For NMH Medical Observation & Ortho Neuro: NIH Stroke Scale training or proof of training required in first 6 months.
- Successful completion of annual mandatory education requirements.
Experience
- If the specialty is not listed, no prior experience is required.
- Experience required:
- MJE Radiation Oncology: 3–5 years hospital or office experience emphasizing oncology or med/surg nursing.
- NMH Palliative Care: Minimum 2 years related RN experience.
- NMH IV Team: 3–6 months on‑the‑job training to learn proper techniques and equipment.
- NMH Surgery Main: 2 years of OR experience for weekend positions.
- Experience preferred:
- MFH Surgery Main: 2–5 years previous inpatient nursing and previous surgical experience.
- MJE Surgery Main: Previous surgical experience.
- MJE Behavioral Health Psych IP: 1 year hospital experience.
- NMH IV Team: Venipuncture experience.
License / Certifications
- Required:
- Current valid Nebraska RN license, compact multistate license, or temporary permit while awaiting licensure.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred at hire; required within 3 months.
- Preferred:
- Certification(s) in specialty from NCC within 1 year of eligibility.
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) for NMH, MWH, & MFH Surgery Main.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for NMH, MWH, MJE.
- Certified Rehabilitation RN (CRRN) and Gerontological Nursing Certification (GERO.BC) for Rehabilitation.
- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Course and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) for NMH Oncology.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with patients, families, staff, and co‑workers.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
- Ability to learn, retain, and use computer skills required for departmental and hospital information systems.
