We care for patients with a variety of diagnoses, including but not limited to: Acute Myocardial Infarction, Congestive Heart Failure, Post‑Trauma, Shock, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, Acute Croup, and Surgical Patients.

Job Duties

  • Provide quality care to all patients and ensure patient safety throughout the continuum of care, advocating for the patient and respecting advanced directives and patient decisions.
  • Complete admission assessments according to unit policy, utilizing past medical history, therapeutic communication, and physical assessment. Apply critical thinking and analysis.
  • Identify accurate nursing diagnoses and collaborative problems to determine appropriate interventions within accepted standards of care.
  • Assess the individual needs of adult, geriatric, adolescent and pediatric patients and develop appropriate care plans.
  • Maintain accurate, objective patient records.
  • Ensure the efficiency and accuracy of orders.
  • Assume patient care responsibilities by organizing workload effectively and remaining flexible to environmental changes.
  • Use departmental equipment correctly and efficiently; demonstrate knowledge of special preparations or equipment needed for department‑specific procedures.
  • Employ nursing skills/competencies, including IV access, ECG interpretation, hemodynamic monitoring, airway management, pain management, neurological assessment, fluid management, infection control, respiratory management and sedation/analgesia assessment and monitoring.
  • Communicate professionally and collaborate effectively with patients, families, co‑workers, healthcare team members and ancillary departments to ensure patient‑centered coordination of care.
  • Manage large volumes of patient, family, staff and physician priorities within short time frames, using critical thinking, delegation skills and respectful communication.
  • Ensure the plan of care is consistent with nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required. This list is not all-inclusive and any other task may be assigned in the future.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Equivalent of one (1) year Critical Care experience or two (2) years Medical‑Surgical experience within the past five years.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications required and must be maintained.
  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or attain certification within six months of employment and maintain certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) certification, or attain certification within 12 months of initial orientation in the emergency department and maintain certification.
  • ECG recognition/interpretation within six months of employment.
  • If no candidates meet the above requirements, consideration will be given to those with one (1) year relevant Medical/Surgical experience or 6 months of relevant Critical Care experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • American Association of Critical‑Care Nurses (AACN) CCRN certification preferred.
