Job Summary
The Registered Nurse II reports to the Nurse Manager. Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal-directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level, utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Unit Description
8W is a 24‑bed inpatient mixed General Surgery / Neuroscience unit for adult and geriatric patients located in the West wing on the 8th floor of the main hospital. All patient rooms are private. The floor manages a variety of general surgery and medicine patients as well as a focus on Neuroscience patients—including stroke patients, general neurology and neurosurgical patients—and supports the Comprehensive Spine Center program. The mixed patient population provides a unique opportunity to learn about a variety of general surgery and medical diagnoses while also meeting the specialized needs of neuroscience patients.
Minimum Training and Education
- Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and must obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date. Refer to policy A141 for more details.
- A minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse is required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Registered nurse licence granted by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, and climbing stairs. Ability to work indoors and in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, from kneeling positions, bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations, use gross motor activities with fingers and hands, fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, execute repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, fully use both legs, maintain balance and coordination, reach in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs from/to floor, lift from 36″ to overhead 25 lbs, exert up to 50 lbs of force, maintain vision and hearing acuity, deal with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, overtime, latex‑safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, and, if applicable, olfactory sensory function and respirator use.
