CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - New Braunfels (CSRH-NB)

Nestled in the heart of downtown New Braunfels, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital is a full-service, 94-bed facility that continues to expand to meet the needs of our growing community. The hospital offers innovative equipment and procedures, including an Outpatient Imaging Center, orthopedic and surgical services, rehabilitation, a renovated birthing center with 24/7 neonatal coverage, emergency care, wound care/hyperbaric center, 3D mammography, and comprehensive heart care from diagnostics to open-heart surgery.

Summary

The Nurse will practice independently in a comparable clinical setting, providing routine and complex care. The role requires long-range goal development, managing contingencies of clinical nursing, and delegating appropriately to other care providers to manage clinical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Provide nursing care in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation) for assigned patients.
  • Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families per level of practice.
  • Administer medications and treatments using appropriate protocols, monitoring side‑effects and effectiveness.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care provided.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, families, and caregivers, identifying issues and resources.

Job Requirements

Education/Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (preferred)

Experience

  • Preferred: 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • BLS required
  • RN license in the state of employment or compact

Position Requirements

Education/Skills

  • All newly hired, experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days.
  • New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and must complete the designated organizational entry competency validation and the Perinatal Services‑specific competency validation.
  • Complete all annual competency verification requirements.

Experience

  • Preferred: Perinatal RN Residency or recent practice in a Perinatal setting.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

  • Current STABLE (Post‑resuscitation/Pre‑transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification required (Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor).
  • Current NRP certification required.

All associates must obtain required certifications for their position within the designated timeframe per the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy.

Credential Grace Periods

Additional credentials required per the Position Requirements section will have a grace period based on experience level.

  • BLS – No grace period. AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire.
  • ACLS – Experienced Associates: within 30 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 90 days.
  • PALS – Experienced Associates: within 30 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 90 days.
  • Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) – Experienced Associates: within 60 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 18 months.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) – Experienced Associates: within 60 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 18 months.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Experienced Associates: within 30 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 60 days.
  • AWHONN INTERMEDIATE FHM (Fetal Heart Monitoring) – Experienced Associates: within 30 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 60 days.
  • STABLE (Neonatal Education) – Experienced Associates: within 30 days; New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty: within 60 days.
