DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Confirms patient identification.
- Checks for physician orders and/or special instructions via the Electronic Medical Records.
- Provides special instructions to the family/significant other.
- Demonstrates knowledge on heart anatomy using ultrasound imaging techniques, performs echocardiogram testing and reports significant findings to Cardiologist and ordering physician.
- Maintains and documents patient information and preliminary findings in log book.
- Prepares VCR tapes for cardiologist review and interpretation.
- Documents completion of ECHO in the electronic medical records.
- Follows medical equipment protocol (i.e., tag/remove broken/clean equipment).
- Maintains and orders supplies as needed.
- Keeps daily statistics.
- Keeps patient immediate environment orderly and clean.
- Follows established procedure in securing patients clothing and personal property.
- Conforms to policies governing patient's rights and confidentiality of information according to HIPAA Guidelines.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to diversity in work place.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in continuing education, in-service and self-directed education process.
- Conforms to policy governing uniform codes, attendance and punctuality.
- Carries out established Infection Control protocols.
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities on an ongoing basis.
- Participates in Clinical Guidelines process.
- Ensures a safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce the risk of injury to all customers (patients, visitors and staff).
- Conforms to current National Patient Safety Goals.
- Ensures compliance with yearly mandate.
- Participates in team building activities.
- Effectively utilizes the electronic as well as the paper medical record.
- Maintains clinical competency
- Other duties as assigned by the Head/charge Nurse for effective coverage fo the unit (i.e., answer telephones, contact patient via telephones, assist patient's to seats).
- One (1) year of Registered Echo Technician/Sonographer experience.
- Stress testing experience. - preferred
- Graduation from High School or in possession of High School Equivalency Diploma.
- Successful completion of Ultrasound Echocardiogram Program.
- Current BCLS required according to American Heart Association or American Red Cross Standards.
- Registered Diagnostics Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) issued by American Registry for Diagnostic Medicine for Sonographers (ARDMS). OR
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) issued by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- Registered Diagnostics Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) issued by American Registry for Diagnostic Medicine for Sonographers (ARDMS).
