Director of Special EducationPaygrade/Days: 203/187Dept./School: Administration BuildingDate Revised: January 2021Primary Purpose: Responsible for providing skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to children with autism, serious emotional disabilities, and other developmental disabilities in the school setting, under the direction of a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst). The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) will collect data on programs, assist with staff trainings, and assist with assessments as needed.Qualifications: Education/Certification: High School Diploma Associates or Bachelor's Degree, preferred Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification required, including annual renewal and registrationSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of current trends and best practices in intervention for students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Excellent oral and written communication skills required Knowledgeable of best practices and laws governing behavioral supports for students with disabilities Ability to work with children with disabilities Ability to follow verbal and written instructionsExperience: Experience with Functional Behavior Assessments, data collection to monitor and measure student growth, therapeutic intervention to support learning, and state-mandated reporting.

Minimum of one year Applied Behavior Analysis work experience, or two years' experience with students who have severe social, emotional and behavior needs.Major Responsibilities and DutiesProvide direct student instruction, and assist staff with implementation, in one=on-one and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment teaching arrangements. Follow prescribed behavior skills acquisition and behavior change protocols. Assist with preparing materials as necessary.Collect, record and summarize data on observable student behavior. Assist with skill acquisition and behavioral assessments.

Collect data on all programming.Document interventions, progress data, and session notes.Assist with staff training of student's individualized treatment and behavior change protocols, through direct teaching, modeling, and fidelity checks.Immediately report to BCBA any student incidents/variances or complaints.Attend work and arrive in a timely manner.Communicate with staff regarding student progress as instructed by the BCBA. Collaborate with school teams and attend IEP meetings as necessary.Assist District staff with maladaptive behaviors, e.g., CPI.Assist District staff with data collection, review, and modify treatment according to data.Communicate through checking voicemail and email regularly.Confer with members of the ARD Committee and district staff and other related team members, individually, at an ARD meeting, or in conference to exchange, discuss and evaluate student information for planning, and modifying, and coordination treatment programsAssist District Staff with students who exhibit inappropriate behaviors and provide support and professional learning for staff who work with students who exhibit suchTo establish rapport and work constructively with staff, students, parents, and community membersTo creatively solve problems and work through the conflict resolution processOther duties as assigned.Supervisor Responsibility: NoneEquipment Used: Patient lift, ramp copier, computer, audiovisual equipment, and specialized equipment or materials necessary to support student IEP's and BIP's.Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and pushing, and pulling; regular heavy lifting of students.
