Regional/Pain Anesthesiologist

Anesthesia Specialists of Bethlehem (ASB), a physician-led private anesthesia practice with over 30 years of stability, is seeking a full-time, partnership-track regional/acute pain anesthesiologist. This role offers the opportunity to join an expanding practice within the growing St. Luke’s University Health Network. The position is open to newly graduating regional or pain fellowship-trained anesthesiologists.

Practice Info

• ASB provides comprehensive anesthesia services across 13 inpatient hospitals and 3 ambulatory surgery centers.
• Key facilities include St. Luke’s Bethlehem Campus (Level I Trauma Center) and St. Luke’s Anderson Campus (Level II Trauma Center with approximately 3,500 deliveries annually).
• The practice is supported by fellowship-trained cardiac anesthesiologists, a dedicated pediatric anesthesia team, and a group of intensivists.
• ASB maintains a diverse and balanced case mix including orthopedics, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, interventional radiology, urology, gynecology, ENT, vascular, and general surgery.
• The Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia Service team includes one anesthesiologist from a dedicated regional/pain faculty, a nurse practitioner with expertise in addiction medicine, and three physician assistants.
• ASB is deeply committed to the Perioperative Surgical Home model, with physicians leading Surgical Optimization Clinics and ERAS protocols.

Responsibilities

• Focus on interventional pain management, including thoracic and lumbar epidurals, peripheral nerve blocks, continuous catheter techniques, and postoperative follow-up.
• Manage multimodal analgesic regimens and assist with procedures.
• Participate in emerging regional anesthesia technologies and clinical trials, including Iovera cryoanalgesia for joint replacement procedures.
• Emphasize multimodal, opioid-sparing analgesia, incorporating regional and neuraxial techniques along with adjuncts such as ketamine, magnesium, lidocaine infusions, and methadone when appropriate.

Compensation

• Average total annual compensation package is approximately $655,000.
• $501,000 base salary
• Approximately $80,000 from voluntary call opportunities
• $70,000 employer-funded 401(k) contribution
• $3,000 CME allowance
• $1,650 employer-funded HRA
• One-time equity buy-in of $2,500 for partnership.

Shift & Schedule

• First and second call average approximately four calls per month.
• First call: Overnight once every 14 days, from 3–4 pm to 7 am.
• Second call: Once every 14 days, regular workday followed by home backup coverage after OR completion (around 7 pm).
• Post-call day off following both first and second call.
• Weekend call: 24 hours, 7am-7am, approximate 6-7 times per year.
• Optional voluntary call opportunities at smaller campuses for additional compensation.
