Associate DirectorThe Associate Director is responsible for the operational performance of multiple Inspection Centers (ICs). The Associate Director will work with the Inspection Center General Managers and their teams to identify and resolve challenges to meeting IC objectives and production requirements. The Associate Director will also oversee IC teams and ensure solid staffing plans, focus on retention and ensure high associate engagement, a sense of urgency to achieve performance metrics, and a culture that reflects Carvana's values.What You'll Be DoingLeadershipDemonstrate effective leadership setting a positive tone and a sense of purpose at the Inspection CenterBuild and develop high performing team within the ICOversee plans to ensure the IC will have the capability to meet future demandsEnsure IC management beliefs and behaviors are in line with the Carvana cultureVisit the shop floor to maintain detailed awareness of the realities of each IC and a connection to its staffPursue consistent, measurable improvement of the ICLives the Carvana valuesProduction ManagementWork with IC team to identify, prioritize, and solve problems impacting the Inspection CenterOversee production planning for the Inspection Centers and ensure purchasing and transportation are aligned with production plansManage Inspection Center capacity to meet production targetsEnsure IC leadership is executing operating standards such as standardized work, operating rules, 5S, product integrations, and visual management toolsMonitor IC compliant with all health and safety and loss prevention guidelinesPeople ManagementCollaborate with People Operations and IC leadership to build and maintain a pipeline of associates to fill current and future positions and manage churnDevelop a bench of candidates for IC leadership positionsEnsure progression path training and certification process are consistently executedModel effective teamwork and ensure it's embraced at all levels of the organizationProvide competency-based feedback and ensure leaders throughout the organization are also providing appropriate feedbackMentor and develop Inspection Center General ManagerContinuous Improvement - 10%Audit continuous improvement events, ensure adequate resources are available to support events, and hold the team accountable for resultsChallenge, participate in and lead continuous improvement effortsTrain and mentor managers on problem-solving and process improvementOther duties as assigned.What The Job RequiresMust be able to read, write, speak and understand EnglishMust be at least 18 years of ageValid driver's license with a clean driving record (no DUIs and no more than two moving violations in the last 3 years)Minimum of 10 years of management experience either in automotive or a lean manufacturing environment leading over 100 associatesCurrent GM at a Carvana Inspection Center or has successfully led multiple manufacturing or reconditioning work centersKnowledge of lean manufacturing principles and experience applying those principles in a complex operating environmentProven track record of leading and developing associates and managersProven ability to manage project deliverables and metrics against aggressive targets and timelineAbility to communicate and interact with others effectively in a professional, courteous manner.Ability to work with and through teams to achieve resultsStrong analysis and decision making abilityProficient computer skillsRequires standing for extended periods of time with frequent stretching, reaching, walking, stooping, pushing, and/or pulling in an environment that may be cold, hot, noisy, and wet and may have fumes or odors due to vehicle maintenanceRequires use of safety equipment that may include but not limited to face shield or goggles, non-slip shoes, gloves, mask, and other protective garments and equipmentAbility to work overtime and on weekends.Ability to work variable schedule(s) as necessary.Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds independently; majority of lifting from knee to shoulder heights; other lifting required from various levelsWalk up to three miles each dayLegal StuffHiring is contingent on passing a complete background check.
