Reading Specialist (Long Term Substitute)

Fremont School District 79 is seeking a reading specialist (long term substitute) for the anticipated dates of October 19, 2026, through June 3, 2027. The reading specialist will primarily focus on two key areas: intervention services and reading professional development.

Qualifications: Illinois professional educator license; reading specialist endorsement.

Position summary: The reading specialist will provide direct reading intervention services to identified students who qualify for Tier II and Tier III services on the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) model. They will support teachers in providing effective classroom instructional interventions to best support student needs in the general classroom setting, promoting inclusion. They will establish a positive classroom environment conducive to effective instruction and learning. They will utilize effective assessment and progress monitoring strategies. They will monitor student entry and exit criteria and ensure students are placed in the appropriate level of services. They will participate in team reviews concerning the academic progress of low-performing/at-risk students. They will foster systems of effective communication with students, staff, and parents regarding intervention services. They will demonstrate strong data analysis skills and develop teacher capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning. They will participate in ongoing professional development to continue growing as an instructional leader. They will facilitate reading professional development opportunities for staff. They will model and/or co-teach lessons with teachers to foster effective and independent teacher utilization of new skills and resources. They will promote the effective integration of the materials available to the ELA teachers. They will collaborate and co-facilitate with the building and district-level staff to effectively promote the growth and achievement of all students. They will possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to engage in positive relationships with administrators, staff, parents, students, and the community. They will model research-based and innovative instructional practices. They will demonstrate knowledge and ability to support educator/adult learning. They will pursue and promote equitable and inclusive learning opportunities, with a focus on closing achievement gaps and meeting the needs of all students. They will maintain accurate and complete records as required by State/Federal law and District policy. They will use site, District, and State assessment data to drive instruction and place students in appropriate instructional and/or intervention programs. They will participate in school-wide events, scheduled meetings, and conferences with guardians. They will participate in school and District initiatives. They will maintain professional competence through participation in District provided professional development sessions and/or self-selected professional growth activities. They will perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $230.00/day
