nRoad & Rail Services is seeking a skilled Railroad Carman for our Paris operation. This position is responsible for examining railcars, identifying mechanical issues, and completing repairs using welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment.
nThis opportunity is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on mechanical work, takes ownership of their work quality, and can operate safely with limited supervision in an outdoor industrial setting.
nKey Responsibilities
nAs a Railroad Carman, you will help keep rail equipment safe and service ready. Your daily assignments may include:
nInspecting railcars for damage, wear, and mechanical problems
nCompleting stick-welding and metal-fabrication work
nCutting and shaping metal with torches, grinders, and related equipment
nUsing wrenches, ratchets, hand tools, and other repair equipment
nOperating railcar end doors during inspection and repair activities
nDetermining the repairs needed and completing authorized work accurately
nMaintaining tools and keeping the work area clean and organized
nFollowing all company, customer, and industry safety requirements
nExperience and Qualifications
nWe are looking for a dependable person with hands-on welding, fabrication, or heavy mechanical experience. Previous railroad experience is beneficial but may not be required for candidates with transferable industrial skills.
nPreferred qualifications include:
nExperience with stick welding
nKnowledge of cutting-torch operation and metal fabrication
nStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
nExperience safely using common hand and power tools
nAbility to complete assignments independently and contribute to a team
nReliable attendance and a safety-first approach
nA valid state driver's license may be required when operating company vehicles or equipment.
nPhysical and Work Environment
nThis is an active outdoor position performed around railcars and industrial equipment. Candidates must be able to:
nStand and walk for extended periods
nFrequently bend, squat, reach, and twist
nApply substantial force when pushing or pulling heavy railcar doors
nClimb ladders and safely perform work at heights above 16 feet
nWork in heat, cold, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions
