MRI Technologist
Provides health care services by applying pulsed radio-frequency waves and magnetic energy to assist with diagnosis or treatment. Performs magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures, computer processing, and related techniques. Produces images for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Acts as a role model for comprehensive care, addressing the physiological and socio-cultural needs of patients and their families. Serves as a resource to other MRI staff in managing complex issues. Ensures equipment is present and accounted for at the beginning and end of each shift. Facilitates employee development and assists in training.
Verifies patient clinical history, ensuring that information is documented and available to the licensed practitioner. Completes patient identification and order verification. Prepares patients for procedures, providing instructions to obtain desired results and minimize anxiety. Selects and operates magnetic resonance systems, surface coils, and associated equipment to achieve desired results. Positions patients and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting patient comfort. Prepares/administers contrast media as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. Evaluates images and data for technical quality. Manipulates display parameters and pushes images to the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) for permanent patient records. Maintains a clean work environment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to the appropriate personnel. Assignments are moderately complex; follows established protocols with some flexibility in exercising judgment. Works under minimal supervision and may serve as a technical specialist or mentor to less experienced staff.
Required: Associate's Degree from an accredited Radiography program. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree. Required: CRT-Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist (MRI) - ARRT certification must be obtained upon hire. Required: CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved provider must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Seldom lifts up to 50 lbs. Occasionally pushes or pulls up to 35 lbs. Occasionally walks, stands, and sits. Rarely drives, bends, or rotates trunk. Occasionally reaches above shoulder and at shoulder or below.
