CT Technologist

CT technologists utilize computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients' internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues. A CT scan technologist must be able to interpret a physician's scanning instructions. They administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment, and position the patient to capture the appropriate images. A CT scan technologist must maneuver equipment and patients, which may pose physical challenges. CT scanners emit radiation, which can be harmful if proper safety procedures are not followed.

Conduct interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. Go out of their way to offer assistance to others. If unable to assist, find someone who can. Advocate to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others maintain awareness. Maintain a clean and safe environment. Respond appropriately and immediately in emergency situations. Maintain a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff to provide the highest level of physical comfort and minimize risk and injury. Ensure compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure. Comply with attendance policies. Report incidents in a timely and effective manner. Engage in the practice of monitoring and enforcing compliance with hand hygiene. Assure all CT images are of optimum diagnostic quality for accurate interpretation. Follow pre-determined image criteria to ensure all images include required measurements, anatomical information, and demographic data. Operate diagnostic CT processing and printing equipment to create quality images and ensure all required data is on the final data sheet. Assess patients to ensure optimum exposure techniques, taking precautions for women of childbearing age. Utilize pre-determined techniques and appropriate computer programs to optimize images. Review physician orders for accuracy prior to examinations to ensure the correct exam is completed. Document to confirm the order has been reviewed. Coordinate daily schedules and consult with scheduling departments to ensure exams are completed in a timely manner. Maintain a safe environment by ensuring sharp objects and toxic substances are not accessible to patients. Ensure the environment is free of objects that may contribute to patient falls, slips, or trips. Make assistive devices readily available for ambulation. Accommodate elderly patients by providing appropriate seating for extended wait times. Interpret verbal and nonverbal responses to pain and take appropriate actions to minimize discomfort. Ensure compliance with policies related to patient security and safety during examinations. Demonstrate knowledge of physical security protocols for children and comply with relevant policies. Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently for equipment handling. Adjust behaviors to meet the needs of a diverse patient population. Perform job-related duties beyond those explicitly described as needed. Flexibility, initiative, and interpersonal effectiveness are essential behavioral attributes required for success in this role.
