Job Title: CT Tech Profession: CT Tech Specialty: Imaging Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in Radiology; less than 1 year experience in CT preferred License: ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography Certifications: ARRT-CT - ARRT Computed Tomography Must-Have: Basic Life Support certification (BLS) Description: Must be flexible with work hours to meet department needs. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Assists in providing safe, age-appropriate care to patients by performing all exams according to department procedures. Has the knowledge and ability to properly and safely obtain quality diagnostic studies. Responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. Able to independently perform job functions. Sets up the equipment to provide imaging services and positions patients for procedures. Verifies proper clinician order for procedures. Obtains complete clinical history, gathers examination data, and assesses contraindicating conditions. Follows established procedures for the administration of contrast media to ensure patient safety. Ensures that all studies have proper patient identification and markers utilized appropriately. Reviews CT/radiographic images for clinically acceptable results and releases patients. Responds to emergency situations and assists in the restocking of crash carts and maintenance of life support equipment. Assists other technologists in all modalities when needed. Observes patient conditions and properly evaluates situations when physician intervention is necessary. Verifies correct identity of patients using two unique identifiers prior to performing procedures. Ensures patient privacy and comfort are accommodated. Maintains patient dignity throughout the exam/procedure. Demonstrates competence in determining and applying appropriate procedures, equipment, supplies, and techniques based on patient age. Organizes schedules, time, and priorities so that required activities are accomplished within designated time frames. Follows physician instructions when assisting with procedures and exams. Demonstrates proficiency with loading and operating power injection equipment. Utilizes critical thinking skills. Engages with patients and families, asking clarifying questions. Seeks clarification on ambiguous orders. Understands and documents pre-procedural verification and Time Out processes when appropriate. Demonstrates understanding of pre-and post-procedural care. Prepares patients for procedures and demonstrates sterile technique. Maintains competency with venipuncture. Adjusts technique to ensure patients receive the lowest possible dose of ionizing radiation while maintaining image quality. Reports any equipment malfunctions to maintain operational efficiency. Cleans, disinfects, and maintains equipment according to infection control policies. Explains the purpose and nature of exams to patients clearly to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation. Addresses patient questions, concerns, or contraindications satisfactorily, notifying physicians when necessary. Participates in the orientation and training of departmental employees as needed. Provides patients with preparatory instruction and explanation of procedures. Ensures documentation is concise, legible, and includes precise terminology. Reads daily emails to stay informed about assignments. Completes mandatory departmental and education requirements without prompting. Produces acceptable images, evidenced by radiologist feedback and quality audits. Checks equipment for proper calibration and operating deficiencies prior to use. Sends all studies to PACS immediately after completion. Completes all studies in RIS before finishing in PACS. Maintains department in clean and orderly condition by restocking linens and supplies. Transports patients, positions them, and assists them on and off procedure tables. Performs patient charging activities on the day the service is rendered. Applies shielding, supportive, and immobilization devices and equipment as required. Offers knowledge and assistance to others when requested. Performs clerical and support personnel duties as needed. Keeps supervisors informed on all responsibilities, ensuring issues are reported promptly. Maintains individual productivity rate comparable to co-workers. Operates all workstations associated with the CT department effectively. Pushes and retrieves images from the CT console to PACS as needed. Maintains compliance with regulatory agency standards. Takes call when necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Exhibits excellent communication skills due to frequent interactions with others. Demonstrates the ability to function independently and under pressure while participating in a team environment. Maintains effective customer service skills at all times. Prioritizes tasks appropriately and is detail-oriented. Interacts professionally with patients, families, co-workers, volunteers, and physicians. Functions independently and productively within a cooperative team environment. Demonstrates competence in all aspects of CT, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
