Radiation Therapist - PT

General Summary

Under the direction of the Radiation Oncologist, the Radiation Therapist prepares, communicates with the patient, and administers radiation treatments to patients. During treatments, the incumbent will monitor the patient’s responses, manage reactions, and document results for the Oncologist’s review.

Essential Functions

• Accurately and efficiently review the patient list daily, ensuring supplies are sufficiently stocked and available.
• Maintain records of daily treatments and document in ARIA.
• Communicate with the Oncologist and other medical professionals prior to, during, and after treatment to ensure patient treatment goals are met.
• Report any abnormal or erratic equipment operations to the Physician, Chief Radiation Therapist, and/or Physicist.
• Communicate treatment plans to patients and answer basic questions; refer advanced questions to a physician or Radiation Supervisor.
• Ensure documentation, consent/release, and other required forms are on file and valid prior to treatment.
• Position patients for treatment according to physician orders.
• Adhere to proper radiation safety protocols.
• Verify proper immobilization devices are stocked, utilized, disposed of, or sterilized after each use.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be registry eligible as a Radiation Therapist.
• Must be able to work with ARIA.
• Must have advanced knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, and radiation physics.
• Must be able to assess and evaluate physical and psychological patient status, including changes in condition, and formulate appropriate actions and communicate with appropriate personnel if there are any changes in patient condition.
• Must show an ability to interpret medical terminology and communicate with patients, or caregivers, regarding the proper course of treatment.
• Must be able to efficiently operate equipment and report any malfunctions to supervisor.
• Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and communication to interact with all walks of life, internally and externally to UCA, from all educational or cultural backgrounds.
• Must work independently or within a team in a fast‑paced environment.
• Must maintain confidentiality, including strict adherence to HIPAA and UCA Guidelines.

Licensure, Certification, Registration Requirements

Must be licensed by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or be registry eligible, as a Radiation Therapist. Must be CPR Certified.

Supervisory Requirements

This position will not supervise any other staff members.
