The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering prescribed radiation treatments to patients in a safe, accurate, and compassionate manner. Working under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist and in collaboration with Medical Physicists and Dosimetrists, the Radiation Therapist ensures precise treatment delivery while maintaining patient comfort and adherence to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer radiation treatments according to physician prescriptions and approved treatment plans.
- Operate and maintain linear accelerators and related radiation therapy equipment.
- Verify treatment parameters and patient positioning prior to each session.
- Monitor patients during treatment and respond appropriately to patient needs or concerns.
- Maintain accurate treatment records and documentation.
- Follow all radiation safety protocols and quality assurance procedures.
- Assist in CT simulation procedures and patient immobilization.
- Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, and Dosimetrists to ensure optimal care.
- Educate patients on treatment procedures and safety guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental meetings.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to regulatory and accreditation standards.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Therapy from an accredited program.
- Certification by ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) in Radiation Therapy.
Experience
- 1–3 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist preferred.
- Experience working in a radiation oncology clinical setting.
- Familiarity with modern radiation therapy techniques and equipment.
- New graduates may be considered.
