MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE
- 1. Master’s Degree in Medical Physics or related field.
- 2. Certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR), the CanadianCollege of Physics in Medicine, or the American Board of MedicalPhysics (ABMP) or board eligible. If board eligible, Must be boardcertified within 3 years from the date of hire to continueemployment.
EXPERIENCE
- 1. Two (2) years of clinical experience OR Two (2) years of residency experience in medical physics.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The statements describedhere are intended to describe the general nature of work beingperformed by people assigned to this position. They are notintended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of allresponsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
- 1. The design, optimization, technical evaluation, and precise andaccurate delivery of treatment plans.
- 2. Maintain quality control of measurement instruments used tocalibrate all treatment equipment and patient monitoring devices(e.g., ionization chambers, electrometers, constancy checkinstruments, water phantoms).
- 3. Participate in the specification, selection, acceptance, andcommissioning of radiation-producing equipment, accessories, andcomputerized treatment planning systems.
- 4. Provide clinical support which includes, but is not limited to,patient specific dose measurements, appropriate use of multi-leafcollimators (MLC’s), and special external beam treatment techniques(e.g., SRS, SBRT, IMRT, IGRT, TBI, and HDR brachytherapy).
- 5. Maintain those aspects of the Quality Management (QM) programthat involve the use of the external beam radiotherapyequipment.
- 6. Participate in the development, implementation, supervision, andreview of the policies and procedures that encompass radiationtherapy equipment.
- 7. Verify that all external beam radiation therapy equipment meetsthe manufacturer’s specifications and establish baselineperformance values for new or refurbished equipment or forequipment following major repair.
- 8. Perform routine review of all patient treatment plans whichincludes a review of patient and dosimetric data as well as beamand machine parameters.
- 9. Participate in weekly department-wide chart rounds to ensure thefulfillment of the prescription and review any changes in dose,patient setup(s), and simulation.
- 10. Perform a weekly review of each patient’s record to ensureaccuracy of calculations, appropriateness of charting data, andfulfillment of the physician’s written prescription.
- 11. Perform an end of treatment review of the patient’s entirerecord to affirm the fulfillment of the initial and/or revisedprescription dose.
- 12. Perform special medical physics consults as ordered by theradiation oncologist(s).
