The Merz Lab at Cleveland Clinic is seeking a Quantum Research Data Scientist I to support biomedical research through fermion-to-qubit mappings and the development of quantum and hybrid algorithms. The role combines data analytics, statistical and predictive modeling, and programming to enable data-driven research workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, simulate, and execute quantum and hybrid algorithms to address complex computational challenges in biomedical research.
- Use programming skills with tools such as SAS, SQL, SPSS, R, Python, and MATLAB (or similar languages) to perform data analytics, generate insights, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Apply basic statistical, mathematical, and predictive modeling techniques to build algorithms and conduct data analytics.
- Perform basic data analysis activities including data validation , investigation, and hypothesis testing .
- Assist the Principal Investigator in transforming data to support research questions, including development of basic predictive and statistical models using modeling tools.
- Identify and implement process improvement opportunities to increase efficiency in data extraction, reporting, programming, and operations.
- Curate and process complex clinical and biological data sets.
- Communicate and present research findings as needed.
- Identify technical issues and manage resolution for analytics programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, plus two years of experience conducting data analytics, math or statistical modeling, or machine learning.
- OR Master’s or PhD degree .
- Proficiency with programming skills in SAS, SQL, SPSS, R, Python, MATLAB , or similar tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced quantum computing skills, including Python .
- Experience with fermion-to-qubit mapping .
- Experience with error mitigation techniques , noise modeling, and circuit optimization for near-term quantum devices.
- Experience developing quantum computing applications using Qiskit .

Salary Information
Pay range: USD 69,600 - 106,132 per year.
- Minimum Annual Salary: $69,600.00
- Maximum Annual Salary: $106,132.50
