Quality Engineer

Akkodis is seeking a Quality Engineer 1 for a 12+ months Contract position with a client located in Gastonia, NC.

Pay Range: $35 - $40/hr. on W2 (The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.)

Position Overview

Company is seeking a Quality Engineer I to support supplier quality and material inspection activities at its Gastonia, NC facility. This role will be responsible for inspecting incoming and outgoing materials, documenting inspection results, partnering with suppliers to resolve quality concerns, and ensuring product quality standards are met prior to shipment to company's Richmond location.

Must-Have Skills:

• Material inspection experience in a manufacturing environment
• Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
• Knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field

Experience:

• 2-3 years of relevant quality, manufacturing, supplier quality, or inspection experience

Responsibilities:

• Perform material and product inspections at supplier locations and the Gastonia facility
• Approve and release shipments for delivery to company's Richmond
• Document inspection findings through reports, photographs, and quality records
• Investigate nonconforming materials and assist with corrective actions
• Support root cause analysis and problem-resolution activities for rejected shipments
• Review quality documentation and ensure compliance with established standards
• Partner with suppliers, production teams, and quality personnel to improve product quality
• Track and communicate quality performance metrics
• Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
• Support continuous improvement and quality assurance initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or quality assurance environments
• Familiarity with quality tools and methodologies such as:
• Root Cause Analysis
• 8D
• Fishbone Diagrams
• Corrective Action Processes
• Experience reading engineering drawings and specifications
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to fabricated sheet metal products

Travel Requirements

• Occasional travel to Richmond, VA (typically 1-2 times per month as business needs require)

The ideal candidate is a hands-on quality professional who enjoys being on the manufacturing floor, working directly with suppliers, solving quality issues, and ensuring that only compliant products are released for shipment. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving are essential for success in this role.

• Strong troubleshooting and analytical abilities
• Comfortable working onsite and interacting with suppliers regularly

Contract Length: 12 Months with potential future conversion opportunity based on performance and business needs.
