Chief Purpose of this position:

The department of InternalMedicine and Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine isrecruiting for a qualified pulmonary and critical care physicianinterested in supporting the lung transplant program, whileexpanding critical care and general pulmonology coverage.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching

The candidates would be expected to be active within the greaterresidency program, ultimately becoming active in the recruitment,education, and advisory of DOIM residents:

• Provide teaching service to learners, including medicalstudents, interns and residents
• Use contemporary adult learning methods to promoteevidence-based practice
• Demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually developas a teacher for learners at all levels
• Complete required evaluations of learners in a timely manner –including but not limited to
  written and verbal feedback
• Participate in other learning activities such as foundations ofclinical medicine, morning report,
  core conference, and other formal educational programs forundergraduate and post-graduate
  learners

Service

• Work with institutional staff and administration to attain thestrategic objectives of VCU Medical Center, including patientsafety, patient and other customer satisfaction, maintenance andenhancement of public perception, and fiscal health.
• Serves on institutional committees, study sections, reviewgroups, as a journal editor, or editorial boards

Clinical

Primary clinical responsibilities will be to provide exemplary carein pulmonary disease and critical care medicine, to include supportof the lung transplant program, while expanding critical care andgeneral pulmonology coverage.

Outpatient

• Clinic/Outreach: Faculty member will assist with outreach forour general pulmonary and lung transplant programs. Outreachinvolves expanding the outpatient clinic footprint of VCU Healthand bringing in new patients to the Health System.

Inpatient

• Critical Care Support: Faculty member will aid in meeting ourgrowing needs for critical care services and essential as werestructure critical care consultation services including nightcoverage, procedural and sedation services, staffing of newadmissions to the ICU, supporting house-staff and the AdvancedPractice Providers (APP) team thereby increasing critical carecapacity.
• Lung Transplant: Faculty member will aid in the care of pre andpost lung transplantation candidates/patients to includepre-operative assessments and care for those with advanced lungdisease, inpatient consultations pre and post transplantation,nocturnal remote lung transplant call coverage, inpatientconsultations and “donor call”.
• Pulmonary Consultation service

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. degree
• Successful completion of an ACGME-approved pulmonary andcritical care fellowship
• Board Eligible - American Board of Internal Medicine, PulmonaryMedicine and Critical Care Medicine
• Successful completion, or in the process of completing, adedicated lung transplant fellowship (one year of equivalent)
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

• Board Certified - American Board of Internal Medicine,Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care Medicine

Salary Range: Commensurate
