nJob Summary DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
nOutline calendar of events targeting health risks for each work shift.
nLeverage health plans, wellness, and community resources.
nAbility to conduct presentations on health prevention issues such as: active living, healthy eating, stress reduction, and tobacco cessation.
nCollects data and performs research to assist in developing, pretesting, and evaluating health-related education techniques and materials.
nSchedules and presents health education programs/seminars for employee, dependent, and retiree populations.
nPrepares or assists with preparing health education pamphlets, visual aids or special projects.
nAssists with the activities of the Employee Wellness Advisory Council (EWAC).
nCollaborates with Wellness Ambassadors and other stakeholders to disseminate wellness information.
nGuide departmental site contacts in the planning, administration and development of wellness programs; key deliverables include creating a culture of wellness, engage high percentage of eligible population, improve health status, drive health risk migration and impact short-term disability, absenteeism and health care costs.
nUtilize your skill in behavior change methods (such as Motivational Interviewing) to encourage adopting habits conducive to a higher quality of life, emphasizing preventative care.
nImplement customized strategic wellness plans for city departments including goals and plan of action.
nEngage program participants in modifying high risk lifestyles or apply behavior change principles to changing and maintaining lifestyle behaviors.
nProvide reports on participation, activities and results to date.
nAssist in the planning, design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of comprehensive corporate health promotion programs (including but not limited to: health screenings/health fairs, awareness events and classes, health communications).
nLead special projects and initiatives.
nTrack and report performance measures including events delivered, participation, and outcomes.
nProvide coverage, as needed, for the City of Houston Wellness Center and assist with day-to-day operations as assigned.
nMeet the operational expectations and goals of the department executive team.
nMaintain current licensure in good standing; seek professional development.
nCommunicate proactively and effectively with participants, peers, and supervisors.
nWORKING CONDITIONS There are no major sources of discomfort; the office environment is essentially normal with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions.
nRequirements: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
nEDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Requires a Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science or a related field such as Public Health.
nEXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS No experience is required. Directly related professional experience in Public Health, Education or a closely related field may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. Previous experience in management of fitness facilities, exercise physiology or closely related field preferred.”
nLICENSE REQUIREMENTS Requires a valid Class C Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
nPREFERENCES:
nCHES is preferred and must show proof of certifications and licensure.
nBilingual (English/Spanish).
nFlexible shifts (need to cover any of 3 shifts on occasion). Ability to travel approximately 25% (may include overnight).
nStrong background in motivational interviewing and stages of change in relation to behavior modification programming required.
nAbility and creativity to develop promotional program material.
nPosses the ability to instruct health education and lead wellness programs.
nPositive attitude, professional, and self-initiator with excellent written and oral skills.
nAbility to engage groups
nAbility to work with a diverse population.
nExperience providing 1:1 and small group Health Coaching.
nStrong conceptual, strategic and visionary skills.
nKnowledge of ROI outcomes.
nAwareness of sensitive issues that may arise working within government departments
nCoordination and strong organizational and time-management skills.
nMaster’s degree preferred—minimum 1-year related experience.
